What you need to know about getting Married Abroad

Last year, around 1.5m people travelled overseas for a wedding (either getting married, or watching)

With so many things to think about, Perfect Weddings Abroad is here to guide you every step of the way.

At PWA, Our UK-based Weddings Abroad Specialists will book the wedding arrangements and the travel arrangements for the Bride and Groom. They will then assist any wedding guests in booking their travel arrangements too. Once your wedding is confirmed we will put you in contact with your In-Resort Wedding Coordinator to book your wedding reception, pre-book any wedding extras and finalise your arrangements before your arrival.

Travel Insurance

This is very important and should be taken out at the time of booking. You should also take out adequate wedding insurance too.

Legal Documents

The required documents vary between countries and these will be explained to you at the time of booking. Sometimes we need to send paperwork to resort in advance of your arrival, in other locations you must take this with you; it really does depend on your chosen location. The absolute minimum requirements of documents that you will need are:
  • Your passports (10 year and valid for at least 6 months after your return to the UK)
  • Your birth certificates (Full length birth certificates, showing both your parents full names are always required).
  • If you have previously been married you will also need to provide legal evidence of your single status, such as a decree absolute (sometimes you are required to provide your previous marriage certificate too).
  • If applicable, adoption and/or deed poll certificates
Weather

Most people say the weather’s a big reason for marrying abroad; a guaranteed sunny day. So make sure you you're not booking in the rainy season!

Exchange Rate

Your money could go a lot further depending on the exchange rate. The strong pound v euro means a European wedding is cheaper than it was at the turn of the year.

In the lead up to your Wedding Day:
  • Choose wedding attire
  • Create a wedding gift list
  • Finalise any outstanding payments
  • Pre-book any resort excusions
  • Pre-book airport car parking
  • Submit Advanced Passenger Information (API)
  • Collate all final documentation and tickets
